Russian Veronika Kudermetova won her first WTA singles title on Sunday, a straight-sets victory over Danka Kovinic of Montenegro at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, S.C.
Kudermetova, 23, broke Kovinic in the seventh game of the second set for a 5-2 lead before finishing off her 6-4, 6-2 victory in one hour and 36 minutes on the clay surface.
The world's top-ranked player, Ashleigh Barty, was beaten in Friday's quarterfinals, while the other nine among the top-10 seeds fell prior to Friday.
Teenage wild-card entry Maria Camila Osorio Serrano completed her surprising run, winning her first WTA title over No. 5 seed Tamara Zidansek in front of her home crowd in Bogota, Colombia.
Serrano came back from a break down in the match, which lasted two hours and 48 minutes, to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Ranked No. 180 in the world, the 19-year-old Osorio Serrano is a former U.S. Open junior champion and now the fourth teenage winner on tour this year following Poland's Iga Swiatek (19) in Adelaide, Denmark's Clara Tauson (18) in Lyon and Canada's Leylah Fernandez (18) in Monterrey.
