Miami senior forward Sam Waardenburg will miss the entire season due to a foot injury, coach Jim Larranaga said on Friday.
The 6-foot-10 Waardenburg sustained the injury to his left foot during practice. He faces a recovery period of six months.
Waardenburg averaged a team-best 6.0 rebounds last season. The New Zealander also averaged 5.9 points and 28.1 minutes in 30 games (24 starts).
Larranaga said the Hurricanes will badly miss Waardenburg.
"He was our most-experienced frontcourt player, our leading rebounder from last season, he was practicing extremely well, and we're going to dramatically miss his defense, rebounding, experience, and just his overall demeanor on the court," Larranaga said. "He was someone who did a lot of different things for us."
Waardenburg has career averages of 5.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in 83 games (35 starts) for Miami.
