New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman underwent knee surgery and will miss Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple reports.

Edelman didn't practice with the team on Thursday. He was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday.

The Athletic reported Thursday that Edelman likely will miss an unspecified number of games because of the injury, but that he will probably return this season.

The Patriots (2-4) are coming off a 33-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers as they travel to Buffalo to meet the AFC East-leading Bills (5-2).

New England could also be without starting wide receiver N'Keal Harry, who suffered a concussion against the 49ers and missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday.

If Harry sits out, that leaves the Patriots with Damiere Byrd, Gunner Olszewski and Jakobi Meyers as their receivers against the Bills, barring additional moves.

Edelman, 34, has 21 catches for 315 yards but no touchdown catches this season. He had eight receptions for 179 yards in a Week 2 loss to Seattle, but since then he has caught just eight balls for 79 yards.

In his 11th season with the Patriots, Edelman has 620 career receptions for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns. He's been part of three Super Bowl-winning teams and was the game MVP in the game that completed the 2018 season.
