DAVAO CITY, April 7 (PIA) - The provincial government of Davao del Sur has allocated P82,288,000 budget to be able to continue the fight against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has earlier approved P20.288 million, while the P62 million was approved on Monday (April 6), Davao del Sur Provincial Information Officer Sherwin Cesar confirmed.
Earlier, Governor Douglas Cagas announced that the second budget allocation was realigned from 20% of the Development Fund of the province.
The governor has placed the province under an Enhanced Community Quarantine which started on April 6, following the declaration of the same by the Davao Region COVID-19 Task Force (RTF11-COVID19).
The biggest chunk of the budget to defeat COVID-19, amounting to P24.5 million is allocated to purchase relief goods to be distributed to the low income families in the province.
Cesar said that of the 49,000 food packs, 12,000 food packs have started distribution as of this writing.
The LGU is set to provide assistance worth P17 million to frontline workers from the provincial government. The assistance will compose of temporary shelter/accommodation with a budget of P3 million, food assistance (P3 million) and hazard pay (P11 million).
The frontline workers will also be assured protection because the LGU has set aside an allocation of P15.075 million for the procurement of 4,300 complete sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The PPE set will include suits, goggles, gloves, shoe cover, face shield, and others.
Also part of the budget for COVID-19 is worth P13.725 million to purchase medical and hospital supplies, which comprise of digital forehead thermometer, nose and throat swab kits, viral test tubes, BP apparatus, nebulizers, oxygen tanks, disposable gloves, surgical face masks, hospital beds and beddings, and etc.
A P3 million budget is allotted for the purchase of mechanical ventilator, while P4 million will be used to procure medicines and vitamins.
Another P3.988 million is allotted to purchase other supplies and materials, such as alcohol, disinfectant solution, sprayer, hand liquid soap, beds, beddings, furniture and others.
The LGU has also set P500,000 fund for the installation of 13 disinfecting tents and five tire disinfectants.
There have also been on-going repair works for 14 rooms at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital (DSPH) to be used as isolation rooms, while six rooms have already completed repair.
The budget allocated for the repair of isolation rooms is P500,000, Cesar disclosed.
The local officials here have continued to appeal to their constituents to cooperate and follow the guidelines of the ECQ as they also assured of the efforts and assistance of the provincial, city and municipal LGUs.
