Inter Miami CF's pursuit of Mexican star Rodolfo Pizarro paid off Monday when the franchise announced the signing of the attacking midfielder.

The transfer fee was about $12 million, according to multiple reports. The deal comes five days after Pizarro and Mexican club Monterrey parted ways due to Pizarro's desire to join the expansion franchise.

Pizzaro is reunited with Inter Miami coach Diego Alonso, who was his coach in Monterrey.

"We're very happy to have a player of Rodolfo's quality join the club," Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a news release. "He is a creative midfielder who strengthens our roster and elevates everyone's quality on the field."

Pizarro gives Inter Miami CF a big piece to build a team around.

Pizarro scored eight goals in 50 appearances over the past two seasons for Monterrey. Also, he has five goals in 25 appearances for the Mexican national team.

He scored two goals during Mexico's run to winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year.

Pizarro practiced with Miami on Friday as the two sides worked to finish negotiations. He turned 26 on Saturday and came off the bench to play in Inter Miami's 2-1 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Union. He scored Miami's goal.
