BEIJING, China - Amid its soaring popularity in China, the country is now said to have clipped the dramatic growth being recorded by the live streaming video platform, Twitch.

According to reports, last month, Twitch, which has been the most popular video game streaming site on the internet for a long time, experienced a rush of popularity in China.

The Amazon-owned video game-streaming service recently peaked in China as the third most popular free app in the App Store.

As the number people using the platform to watch esports in the Asian Games rose, the service recorded a dramatic boost.

However, now, Twitch has been cut off right after witnessing a significant bump in popularity among Chinese gamers.

Several Twitch users took to the local social media in China, Weibo, to determine if the service was not accessible only for them.

Then, a Hong Kong-based China tech news website called Abacas noticed that Twitch's website was not accessible in several parts of the country.

Later, the site revealed that the app had even been knocked out of Apple's App Store in China.

Soon, the number of Twitch users complaining about the site not been accessible rose and

the streaming service eventually confirmed that it is being blocked in China.

However, the company didn't reveal why the authorities have imposed the restriction.

Chinese authorities too have not made any official comments about the move so far.

China is known for operating a comprehensive online censorship system.

The country limits what people can do and see online.

Last month, the Asian Games in Jakarta were not broadcast on state-run media in China, which led many sporting enthusiasts to use Twitch to see the gaming tournaments.
