Pakistan parliament starts to crumble
United States News.Net Monday 12th May, 2008
Pakistan's coalition government is on the verge of collapsing after only seven weeks of debate.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced that all nine ministers belonging to his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, will resign on Tuesday morning due to continuing divisions over the reinstatement of dismissed judges.
The former prime minister's decision came after talks with senior coalition partner, the Pakistan People's Party.
Mr Sharif made the restoration of the 60 judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf a condition of joining the coalition led by Asif Ali Zardari, but the issue has failed to be resolved.
President Musharraf dismissed the judges, including Supreme Court Justice Iftikar Chaudhry, during a period of emergency rule as he feared the Supreme Court could rule that his re-election was illegal.
